| Nick and Alice are introduced one night at the Academy Club and sparks fly instantly. After a lot of vodka and some passionate necking, they make plans to meet for lunch later that week. The next day, a hang-over and distracted Nick attends a presentation at Magnascopics Research Laboratories, a high-tech facility with investment potential. Sneaking away from a boring lecture, he finds an empty executive suite containing a sauna, and settles down for a quiet catnap. At the same moment, a careless technician sets off a cyclotron, triggering an alarm and a frenzied evacuation from the building. Nick, sleeping serenely in the sauna, is oblivious. When he awakens, Nick is astonished to notice that portions of the building around him seem to be missing. He soon realizes that he himself has met a similar fate: his body, while intact, has become invisible as a result of the industrial accident. His startled cries alert a team of covert operatives who have secretly come to investigate the accident and its cause, led by the cunning David Jenkins. When Jenkins deduces what’s happened to Nick, the agent realizes he has something invaluable on his hands and moves to capture his ephemeral prey. Nick must quickly adapt to his invisible state and learn to take advantage of it in order to stay free of Jenkins. In a series of narrow escapes, Nick manages to elude his pursuers until he can explain things to an astounded Alice, who then joins forces with him in a relationship that explores the limits of friendship, love—and the imagination. |
