Production Notes

Legendary filmmaker John Carpenter directs Ice Cube (THREE KINGS, BOYZ ‘N THE HOOD), and rising star Natasha Henstridge (SPECIES, THE WHOLE NINE YARDS) as James "Desolation" Williams and Lt. Melanie Ballard, in JOHN CARPENTER’S GHOSTS OF MARS, a film that both solidifies Carpenter’s mastery of the science fiction genre and reflects his life-long love of movie Westerns.

The film, co-written by Carpenter and Larry Sulkis, is being produced by Sandy King (VAMPIRES, VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED). Director of photography Gary B. Kibbe, A.S.C., production designer Bill Elliott and costume designer Robin Bush create a look and feel of the mysterious Red Planet unlike anything ever seen on film. Acclaimed special effects make-up artist Greg Nicotero, visual effects supervisor Lance Wilhoite and special effects coordinator Darrell Pritchett round out Carpenter’s technical team. The film will be edited by Paul Warschilka.

Jason Statham (LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS) as Jericho, Clea Duvall (GIRL, INTERRUPED) as Bashira Kincaid, Pam Grier (JACKIE BROWN) as Commander Helena Braddock and Liam Waite (SIMPATICO) as Descanso comprise the Mars Police Force team accompanying Lt. Ballard on her transport mission. Joanna Cassidy (CHAIN REACTION) is Professor Whitlock, the archeologist who inadvertently unearths the Martian marauders.

Rounding out the cast are Duane Davis, Lobo Sebastian, and Rodney A. Grant, as Uno, Dos and Tres, "Desolation" Williams’ partners-in-crime, and Richard Cetrone as Big Daddy Mars, the leader of the Martian warriors. Veteran character actors Peter Jason and Robert Carradine appear as McSimms and Rodale, the transport train engineers
