SPE is flying "Vampires" around
By Dana Harris
Sony pictures Entertainment has picked up all media distribution rights in the United States and Canada for Largo Entertainment production JOHN CARPENTER'S VAMPIRES starring James Woods and Daniel Baldwin.
SPE, which acquired Latin American rights to the picture at MIFED last year, has also acquired distribution rights in the United Kingdon, Scandinavia and Benelux countries.
Woods and Baldwin portray the leaders of a vampire-slaying team that uncovers a den of bloodsuckers led by a master vampire who challenges the interlopers to a deadly battle.
The deal was announced by Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group senior vice presidents Peter Schlessel and Clint Culpepper and Largo Entertainment chairman Barr Potter. Columbia Pictures has tentatively scheduled the film for a fall release.
"Peter and I have known Barr Potter and his team at Largo for quite some time, and we have come to respect their style of business and the sort of interest their films generate," Culpepper said. "Its great that we are finally able to work together, and we hope for future collaborations."
VAMPIRES produced by Sandy King and Storm King Prods., also stars Sheryl Lee and Maximilian Schell.
