Lee Van Cleef

Lee Van Cleef
LEE VAN CLEEF plays the part of the menacing police commissioner of the United States Police Force in the futuristic drama set in the prison island of New York City in Escape From New York.

Van Cleef began his acting career as a member of the touring cast of Mr. Roberts. A time-and-motion engineer, Van Cleef regarded his start as an actor as simply a lark, but soon moved on to such parts that he gave up his previous profession to devote himself entirely to acting.

After an 18-month stint with Mr. Roberts, Van Cleef auditioned for and won an important role in the classic film High Noon playing the sardonic killer who loses the showdown gunfight with Gary Cooper. Thereafter, he began a round of arch-villain roles in films including Gunfight At The OK Corral, The Bravados, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

He followed with now famous roles in the enormously popular westerns For A Few Dollars More, A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.

Lee Van Cleef has appeared in over 70 feature films including The Octagon.

He has also done numerous television shows including Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Maverick, Have Gun Will Travel, The Twilight Zone and 77 Sunset Strip.

A physically impressive man, Van Cleef stands 6’2" tall and weighs 200 pounds. He stays in top physical condition with calisthenics and daily swimming sessions.

Van Cleef spends his free time with music and portrait and figure painting.
