| ANDRE BLAY was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan and founded an audio/video production and duplication company in 1968 called Magnetic Video. Nine years later the company first licensed, marketed and distributed half-inch videotape cassettes to consumers. In 1979, Twentieth Century Fox bought Magnetic Video, and Blay became president and CEO of Twentieth Centurys Home Video. Blay left Fox in 1981 to form his own company but a year later was persuaded by Norman Lear and Jerry Perenchio, founders of Embassy Communications, to join forces with them; Blay became chairman and CEO of the newly formed Embassy Home Entertainment. He left Embassy in 1986 when it was purchased by the Nelson Group and formed Palisades Entertainment Group with Elliot Kastner. While he was chairman of Embassy Home Entertainment, Blay green-lighted the films Hope and Glory, Sid and Nancy, Souvenir, and Destiny. He was instrumental in raising funds for The Princess Bride, The Emerald Forest and The Name of the Rose. Blay Served as executive producer of John Carpenters Prince of Darkness, The Blob and Homeboy with Kevin Dillon. |
